Elevating authentic voices is especially valuable right now, as <strong>DC faces intense pressures<\/strong> of gentrification, and again undergoes major changes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-113\" src=\"https:\/\/communityphonebooth.net\/dc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Photo-Aug-23-7-56-44-PM-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/communityphonebooth.net\/dc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Photo-Aug-23-7-56-44-PM-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/communityphonebooth.net\/dc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Photo-Aug-23-7-56-44-PM-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/communityphonebooth.net\/dc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Photo-Aug-23-7-56-44-PM-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>For the community museum, this system is a way to reach <strong>beyond museum walls<\/strong>, and offer access to DC residents \u2014 from home, or even from the street. Additional outreach will include several DC branch libraries, including with <a href=\"https:\/\/communityphonebooth.net\/dc\/2018\/09\/adams-morgan-map\/\">maps<\/a> and the new <a href=\"https:\/\/communityphonebooth.net\/dc\/2018\/08\/adams-morgan-day-w-truck\/\">Humanities Truck<\/a> from American University.<\/p>\n<p>This is also a <strong>participatory system<\/strong>. Over the next two years, the hotline will gather new voices and evolve, including to distribute multimedia from the exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than focus on the internet, we believe an <strong>audio and transmedia system for public space and personal phones<\/strong> may have special uses to circulate stories that matter for DC neighborhoods.
